DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowa’s only seat on the Democratic National Committee’s Rules and Bylaws Committee has been assigned to another state.
Scott Brennan confirmed to Iowa’s News Now he was removed from the committee that decides the order of states in the presidential nominating process.
According to the Des Moines Register, New Hampshire. which defied the Democratic Party’s calendar by holding an unsanctioned presidential primary, has been awarded a second seat on the powerful committee.
Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart issued this statement on Iowa’s omission from the committee:
“Iowa’s economy is now the worst in the country, families are struggling with rising costs, and we face devastating cuts to Medicaid. It is time for new leadership in Iowa who understands the challenges Iowans are facing. Democrats have strong candidates for Iowa Governor, U.S. Senate, and for some of the closest congressional races in the country. That’s why my focus right now is to ensure we win in 2026.
I do expect to have tough and direct conversations with the DNC regarding our Iowa caucuses and the serious concerns surrounding the Biden 2024 calendar. National Democrats let Trump get a headstart in the 2024 campaign by excluding Iowa. We simply can’t afford to be ignored again.”
