Danny Glover offered insight into his personal life before revealing his Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis.
Glover rose to fame in the ‘80s after playing LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh in the Lethal Weapon films. He also appeared in movies such as The Color Purple, Predator, Saw, Dreamgirls, Death at a Funeral, Sorry to Bother You and more.
On the small screen, Glover had an Emmy-nominated role as Nelson Mandela on HBO’s Mandela. He was also on Showtime’s Fallen Angels and TNT’s Freedom Song.
Glover became a dad in 1976 when he welcomed a daughter with then-wife Asake Bomani. They later called it quits, and Glover found love with Eliane Cavalleiro. After a decade of marriage, Glover’s rep confirmed his split from Cavalleiro in 2022.
Four years later, Glover revealed that he had recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
“I can live with it in a sense,” he said on Today in 2026 about his progressing symptoms. “I’m sure as it advances, different things will be different and changing.”
Glover highlighted his commitment to speaking with “young people” about his social justice efforts.
“A big deal is talking to young people and their responsibility,” he said. “[I have] a lot to learn, as well.”
Glover’s daughter also spoke about his diagnosis, telling People, “I think he’s aware sometimes and then sometimes not.”
She continued: “It’s a change in the core of who you think you are or don’t think you are. It’s very hard. You just have to live the day for what it is.”

Asake Bomani
After meeting in college, Glover and Bomani started dating.
“I’ve always been infatuated with Sake,” Danny told People in 1992. “She has a strong sense of morality, coupled with a strong sense of herself.”
The duo got married in 1975 and welcomed daughter Mandisa one year later. Bomani also reflected on their relationship, telling People, “We’ve been friends for so long, it’s like we grew up together. Danny tends to love people unconditionally, and I want him to have conditions. Danny is less judgmental than I.”
In 2000, Glover and Bomani got divorced, with the actor citing irreconcilable differences.
Eliane Cavalleiro
Glover met Cavalleiro in 2003 in Brazil at the World Social Forum. After several years of dating, the pair got married in 2009. A rep for Glover confirmed in 2022 that he was “no longer married” to Cavalleiro.
