The new Jason Statham movie, “A Working Man” was #1 at the box office this past weekend, edging out Disney’s heavily hyped and very expensive “Snow White.” “A Working Man” made $15.2 million to “Snow White’s” $14.2 million.
“Snow White,” which fell 66% in its second weekend, has been beset by controversy. The movie faced criticism over the casting of Rachel Zegler, who is Latina, for playing a character described as having skin as white as snow, and over its portrayal of dwarfs, with Peter Dinklage calling “Snow White” a “backward story.”
Zegler also enflamed fans by criticizing the original 1937 Disney cartoon as being outdated, and had to apologize for saying on social media, “May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace,” following the 2024 presidential election.
“A Working Man” involves Statham busting heads as he works to find his boss’ teenage daughter after she disappears. The movie received mixed reviews from critics.
“The Woman in the Yard,” “Death of a Unicorn” and “The Penguin Lessons” also opened to disappointing results.
