Of course the excitement surrounding the Giants — magnified with their sensational season opener — centered on their time-tested head coach and up-and-coming quarterback. Those are the desirable blocks to build upon.
There were also more muscular reasons to buy into the Giants as a team on the rise. Exhibit A was their heavily fortified defensive front. Exhibit B was an offensive line that made significant strides in 2025 and expected to be even better in 2026.
If it was what’s up front that counts, the Giants felt like a team that could compete on a weekly basis, based on the big guys they assembled on both sides of the ball.
One game in, it was all looking so promising for the Giants. Two games in, not so much.
