Can a pair of chefs from the Garden State outcook a celebrity chef?
Find out Tuesday, Nov. 18, when David Viana and Brian Lopes of Lita in Aberdeen battle Alex Guarnaschelli on Food Network’s “Alex vs. America.”
The show, now in its fifth season, pits Guarnaschelli against “three expert chefs in two cooking rounds where anyone can be sent home, including Alex,” according to Food Network. “With ultimate bragging rights and $15,000 on the line, the chefs will battle to see if they have what it takes to beat Alex.”
Tuesday’s episode will feature three teams of chefs, each comprising an executive chef and sous chef, from restaurants across the country. Viana and Lopes are repesenting Lita, their Iberian restaurant and bar in Monmouth County.

The other teams include Michael and Kwini Reed of Poppy + Rose in Los Angeles and Kevin Tien and Paola Serrano of Moon Rabbit in Washington, D.C.
The show is hosted by Eric Adjepong, with whom Viana competed on season 16 of Bravo’s “Top Chef,” and the dishes will be judged by restaurateurs and brothers Michael and Bryan Voltaggio.
This is Viana’s second Food Network appearance this year. In February, he competed on “Tournament of Champions,” beating Chefs Dara Yu and Tobias Dorzon before being bested by Chef Sarah Bradley.
“Alex vs America” airs at 9 p.m. Tuesdays on Food Network.
