Joel Sherman is back with his “3 Things I Think” video series, and the latest edition focuses on rising Yankees starter Cam Schlittler.

The 25-year-old wasn’t on anyone’s radar at this time last year as a potential difference-maker in the rotation so soon. Joel’s not sure he’s ever seen a player go this far, this quickly. Schlittler himself told Joel regarding the version of himself that pitched Opening Day in Double-A in 2025: “That guy sucked.”

Some added weight, increased velocity, the addition of a cutter and an improved curveball, however, have suddenly turned Schlittler into a vital piece.

How vital? As Joel explains, the Yankees didn’t trade for a starter at the deadline last year because they felt Schlittler’s stuff would translate better than anyone they could get on the market. Scouts Joel has talked to are raving about him, particularly his performance in his last exhibition outing against the Blue Jays, believing it’s the best stuff they’ve seen this spring.
