Josh Allen is doing it all.
In what has been a dominant performance from the rolling Bills on “Sunday Night Football” in the middle of a snowstorm, Allen added some flare and more comfort to the team’s lead in what was a touchdown that may have had stat experts scratching their heads.
With under six minutes to play in the third quarter and leading 21-3, Allen lined up at San Francisco’s 7-yard line on a first down and completed a short pass to Amari Cooper at Highmark Stadium.
As 49ers defenders surrounded the receiver and tried to bring him to the ground, Cooper flipped the ball back to Allen, who seemingly had the sense to follow his own pass, and the quarterback sprinted to the end zone, diving for the goal line pylon for another touchdown.
The play gave Allen, 28, both a passing and receiving touchdown even though he was not credited with a reception. Allen threw another touchdown earlier in the game.
Per the broadcast, it’s the fourth time this has happened in league history to a quarterback.
If it were to happen this season, the Bills would be a good bet as they have been at the top of the AFC all season, trailing just one game behind the reigning back-to-back champion Chiefs.
Allen and Buffalo managed to beat Kanasas City in Week 11 to hand the Chiefs its first loss of the season.
The 49ers (5-6), who have an up-and-down season plagued by injuries, suffered yet another setback during the second quarter when Christian McCaffrey went down with a concerning knee injury and did not return to the game.
The Bills went on to beat San Francisco 35-10.
The touchdown is a unique addition to Allen’s already exciting week, which saw him get engaged to singer and actress Hailee Steinfeld during the Bills’ bye week.
The couple was first linked in May 2023 when they were caught in a big PDA moment during a sushi date in New York City.
