Kai Trump, a freshman at the University of Miami and a member of the Canes’ women’s golf team, said she underwent surgery to repair a wrist injury she sustained in September in an Instagram post on Wednesday.
Kai — who is the daughter of former model Vanessa Trump and businessman Donald Trump Jr. — dhared a snapshot of her laying in hospital bed with her bandaged arm in a sling at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York.
“While I had hoped to avoid surgery, after talks with my family, coaches, and athletic training staff I know I made the best decision for my long-term health and my future in the game I love,” Kai, 19, wrote. “It’s certainly not how I envisioned the next few months, but sometimes the journey takes an unexpected turn, and I’m choosing to embrace this one with patience, and a whole lot of determination.
“Recovery will take time, but I’m incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by amazing people who continue to lift me up, encourage me, and remind me that every challenge is an opportunity to grow. Having the right people by your side makes all the difference, and I couldn’t be more grateful.”
Kai, who injured her wrist in her first college tournament, went on to the thank Dr. Carlson and the team at HSS, as well as her teammates, coaches and family.
“For now, it’s all about healing, and trusting the process,” she wrote. “I can’t wait to be back with my team, doing what I love. I’ll be back before you know it, stronger and more grateful than ever! Go Canes!”
Kai did not elaborate on a timetable for her recovery.
She played in a three-round-in-two-day tournament last week in Muncie, Indiana.
Kai previously shared that she had surgery on her left wrist in January “to address injuries to the stabilizing tissues of my ECU tendon and damage to my triangular fibrocartilage complex.”
