Kathy Bates has style for days!

The Matlock star, 76, stepped out for the 2025 Critics Choice Awards on Feb. 7, five months after debuting her 100-lb. weight loss at the Emmy Awards last September.

Bates — a nominee for best actress in a drama series — displayed her new look in a black moto-style jacket with a black shirt underneath and wide-leg chiffon pants at the awards show. Though she skipped the red carpet, Colin Farrell called out the actress during his acceptance speech for best actor in a limited series for his role in The Penguin. He asked the crowd where Bates was, and the cameras panned to her at her table, where her rock-and-roll-inspired look was revealed.

She showed off the full ‘fit when her name was called as the winner for best actress in a drama series for her role in Matlock.

When she appeared on The Talk in December 2024, Bates said she already had the ensemble, hinting that she dressed herself for the occasion. “I’ve got something in my closet for the Critics Choice,” she teased. Whether that outfit changed when the date of the show changed is unclear.

Though only having attended the Critics Choice Awards once in 2003, Bates has been nominated multiple times. She won for her performance in Primary Colors in 1999.

Bates recently attended the 2025 Golden Globes, where she was up for best performance by a female actor in a television series — drama, but lost to Shōgun’s Anna Sawai. She responded to the loss by jokingly ripping up a piece of paper, seemingly a planned acceptance speech, as she stared down the camera.

For her return to the show, she wore an intricately beaded jacket featuring shoulder pads, a high collar and button-adorned overlapping lapels. Trousers and a beaded handbag completed the look, as did a pair of navy mesh Sneex designed by Spanx founder Sara Blakely.

Since launching in summer 2024, the brand’s sneaker-stiletto hybrid has become an everyday favorite for stars such as Gayle King and Reese Witherspoon. Thanks to Bates’ stunning Globes moment, they might become a carpet signature too!

Bates selected a similarly beaded look for the 2024 Emmys on Sept. 15, which marked her first major appearance after her weight loss. Her choice of gown was a deep plum-colored Giorgio Armani design covered in fringe embellishments.

She told PEOPLE that she and her friend who joined her fitting “were in tears because everything I came out in just looked exquisite.” She added: “I knew I felt great, and I looked great.”

It was in October 2024 when Bates first opened up to PEOPLE about her weight-loss journey, during which she lost 80 lbs. over the past seven years through changes to her lifestyle. She then lost another 20 lbs. on Ozempic.

“There’s been a lot of talk that I just was able to do this because of Ozempic,” Bates said. “But I have to impress upon people out there that this was hard work for me, especially during the pandemic. It’s very hard to say you’ve had enough.”

Having been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes around 2017, Bates decided to get serious about her health. She began listening to her body, changing her diet and thinking about how she wanted to incorporated exercise into her routine.

Her weight loss, she said, “coincided beautifully” with the timing of Matlock. “Physically, I’m capable of doing this show,” she says. “I don’t have to sit down. I can stand up all day long and walk and move and breathe and do so many things that I couldn’t before.”
