Kathy Griffin took a page out of President Donald Trump’s playbook this week by claiming the 2024 presidential election was rigged in his favor.
“People think I’m tinfoil hat because I don’t think he won in a free and fair election this time,” Griffin told E. Jean Carroll during a Substack live that was posted to Griffin’s YouTube channel this week.
Griffin said she expected to “take a hit” for her “humble opinion,” and said she’s suspicious of billionaire and X owner Elon Musk’s involvement in the election. Musk was a major donor and supporter of Trump’s campaign, though their relationship has soured as of late with Musk announcing he’s starting his own political party.
“I don’t trust the Elon connection,” Griffin told Carroll. “I have my suspicions and yet at the tender age of 64, I never thought I would say something. And I know that sounds crazy, but I just had to put that out there because I can’t resist getting in trouble.”
Carroll also said that Trump winning every swing state in the election doesn’t “sit right” with her, but denied she’s a “conspiracy theorist.” Carroll has accused Trump of sexually assaulting her in the ’90s, an accusation he denied. A jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defaming Carroll in 2023.
Griffin last found herself in trouble when it comes to Trump when she took part in a 2017 photo shoot where she posed with a fake bloody head resembling Trump. Griffin lost multiple high-profile gigs in the aftermath, including with CNN. She apologized in the immediate aftermath, but has been more defiant recently, lashing out at those she believes helped in adding fuel to the fire of the controversy, including fellow liberals like Stephen Colbert.
Trump similarly continues to claim, without proof, that the 2020 presidential election was rigged against him.
Griffin and Carroll not the only celebrities who have clashed with Trump in public to push the conspiracy theory that he actually lost the 2024 presidential election. Rosie O’Donnell, whose feud with Trump extends to years before he was president, also claimed she does not believe he won a free and fair election. O’Donnell made her claims after moving to Ireland just days after Trump’s election victory.
