Ryan Destiny and Keith Powers are officially hearing wedding bells, joining the list og high-profile celebrity engagements. But how did we get here?
Powers and Destiny first met when they were 23 and 20, a whole decade before they became fiancé and fiancée. The duo remained friends for a while before going public with their relationship in 2019, only to break up in 2022 and later quietly rekindle their love, leading to the surprise engagement announcement.
“The more you keep private, the happier you’ll be,” Powers said back in 2029 when they first confirmed they were a couple, a motto they have clearly since stuck to. “It’s not easy being in a public relationship, so you try to keep as much as you can private. Control your own narrative, don’t give people too much because they make up stuff from the outside looking in. It’s also very important to communicate and let each other know how you feel.”

October 5, 2025: Ryan Destiny and Keith Powers announce their engagement
Ryan Destiny and Keith Powers announced they were engaged in a joint post on Instagram, where they posted photos from a joint shoot showing off her engagement ring. “Engaged to the love of my life,” the post was captioned.
Speaking to Essence, the couple shared more details about their engagement, which reportedly happened fairly recently, “over a sweet, private, candlelit dinner at the Rosewood Miramar Beach” while Violinist Jeremy Green serenaded them. The engagement was planned by Erica Adams of Erica Adams Design.
“The engagement itself was really intimate and tender; it just felt right,” the couple explained. “Now that we’re stepping into wedding planning, we’re trying to approach it the same way we approach everything else that matters — with intention, patience, and communication. We’ve always been teammates, and I’m just really grateful that I get to have my best friend, and now my fiancé by my side.”
Powers revealed he had been planning to propose for a year and a half. “Things came up along the way, and I had to keep pushing it back. It made me a bit anxious, but I never questioned God’s timing,” he revealed. Congrats to the engaged couple!

Ryan Destiny and Keith Powers made their Cannes red carpet debut together just months after confirming they were back on. At the event, Powers opened up about their relationship to People, saying: “I think partnership really works when you really do look at your partner [the way you would look at] siblings, in a way. We could fight. We might not talk to each other for a minute. But we love each other. We come back. You know what I’m saying?”
He added: “I feel like for me and Ryan … it’s like this is family. It’s not a thing where [it’s like], ‘Oh, I didn’t like [that] she did a certain thing and now I don’t want to be in a relationship,’” he continued.
December 13, 2024: Ryan Destiny confirms she and Keith Powers are dating again
Ryan Destiny appeared in The Breakfast Club where she revealed that she and Powers were “really good” and the breakup was just a temporary bump in the road. “We’re great,” she said. “We support each other so so much in what we’re doing, and the industry is just crazy, so it’s nice to separate the two.”
Destiny later further emphasized to People that she and Powers were “more than best friends” in February 2025. “I just love him so much, and I just appreciate him every step of the way,” Destiny said. “He’s such a cheerleader for me, as I am for him. It just means everything.”

People was first to report that Keith Powers and Ryan Destiny had split after four years together. “They’re taking time to focus on themselves and their emerging careers but are remaining close friends,” a source close to the couple revealed.

July 2019: Keith Powers and Ryan Destiny make their relationship official
After much speculation, Keith Powers and Ryan Destiny made things official in a joint digital cover interview with We the Urban, where they chatted freely about their relationship for the first time.
In the interview, Destiny revealed she felt an instant connection with Powers. “I had shamefully liked Keith since we met,” she said. “We were just friends for a minute. So when we let things naturally happen, if you let it, love falls in naturally too. There have been many moments in our relationship that made my heart feel heavy. In a good way and sometimes not so good way. In those moments, whatever they may be… the way I would think and feel wouldn’t feel surface anymore. You see things differently. Want to be different. The best you for yourself. The best you for your other. Knowing things will get-if anything more difficult, but knowing you both are in it. Once I realized that, and then some, it was a rush.”
Destiny also revealed they tried to “hide” their relationship “for a minute” but ultimately decided to announce it to the world. “As human beings, sometimes you want to just shout to the world, ‘I love this person and I’m happy!’ We try to find a balance. I’m already a private person and very career driven so reminding people that I am my own person is important. Luckily, for the most part, people recognize that.”
Powers, on the other hand, said: “I realized I was in love when I knew my life would be extremely affected in a negative way if Ryan wasn’t in it. Loving someone is a very natural feeling that just happens. You can’t just wake up and say I love this person, you feel it. You realize like ‘Wow, this person is a piece of me,”’ and regardless you don’t ever want that person out of your life. I also felt myself growing as a person when Ryan came into my life, especially mentally. And I realized that I’m ready to deal with anything I have to deal with alongside Ryan. Once I felt that, I knew.”

As confirmed by Keith Powers and Ryan Destiny themselves, the couple first met at a Teen Vogue party back in 2015 — more specifically, the 13th Annual Young Hollywood Issue Launch Party on October 2, 2015, in Los Angeles, California. Though the duo arrived separately and posed on their own for the photo call, Powers saw Destiny from across the room and ran to her to introduce himself. They remained “platonic” for a while before things heated up over Instagram, where the duo often interacted with each other.
