Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have been married for over a decade — and their attitude to each other’s steamy on-screen sex scenes shows just what a strong unit they are.
In an interview with E! News published Monday, February 17, Bell said that due to their “foundational trust,” she knows that her husband and father to her two daughters, Lincoln, 11, and Delta, 10, is loyal — no matter who he has to make out with on camera.
“Even if Dax hooks up with the most beautiful person in the world at work, I know he’s committed to our family,” said the Good Place and Frozen actress, 44. “I know he’s coming home. I know he loves our children. I know he strives to be a great husband and father.”
Bell added that, if any insecurities do come up between the couple, they always talk them through. “We’re just human, right?” she said. “So maybe there could be a day where I’m like, ‘I’m actually really nervous that you spend time with that person.’ And he could say, ‘Oh, OK, let’s talk about it. What makes you nervous? What are you thinking?’ We have a very open communication.”
In fact, Bell even admitted to enjoying it when Shepard, 50, got hot and heavy with one hot costar. “We root for each other,” she said. “When he got to make out with Minka Kelly on Parenthood, I was like, ‘Yes. Get it.’ We’re married, we’re not dead.”
Lately, though, it’s Bell’s on-screen romances that have been getting a lot of attention — namely, the seemingly sizzling chemistry between her and Adam Brody in Netflix hit Nobody Wants This.
“Dax knows there’s no real threat there, because Adam and I, if you were to see us in person, there is not chemistry,” she said. “We bicker all the time. We’re like an old granny and grampy. It’s not hot and heavy on set at all.”
OK, so it’s a little disappointing for the millions of Nobody Wants This viewers who believe in Bell and Brody’s adorable onscreen romance, but very reassuring for Shepard (not to mention Brody’s gorgeous real-life wife, Leighton Meester!).
Bell and Shepard first met back in 2007, when they were introduced at the birthday party of their mutual friend, producer Shauna Robertson, but it was only after they crossed paths at a hockey game a few weeks later that the first glimmers of romance started to surface.
Bell told Today in 2019: “[We] started to flirt, left, and then a day after that I get a text that says ‘Hi, my name is Dax. I violated your privacy and got your number from Shauna. How do you feel about that?’ And I was like, ‘Excuse me? You sound stimulating.’ The only thing that I remember is that he talked so much. I was like: ‘This guy can talk!’” She added: “I fell in love with him way before he fell in love with me.”
Despite Shepard revealing on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2021 that there was “a ton of jealousy” early in the relationship, due to him previously being in an open relationship, 17 years on, these two are still rock solid.
