Kristin Cavallari is opening up about her deep connection with ex-husband Jay Cutler.

Cavallari, 39, got candid about her “soul” tie with Cutler, 52, during a Tuesday, March 31, episode of her “Let’s Be Honest” podcast. While discussing knowing when to walk away from a romantic partner, Cavallari shared, “I know I was supposed to marry my ex-husband. I was supposed to have three kids with him.”

“That was my journey,” Cavallai explained. “And I actually think we probably decided that before we came to Earth. I think we had a soul contract and we were supposed to be together.”

Cavallari added that they “broke up when they were engaged and came back together” because she felt “this crazy pull towards him.”

“I couldn’t make sense of it, but I knew I had to be with him,” she continued. “Even though I logically was like, ‘He’s probably not good for me.’ But on a deep spiritual level, I had to be with him.”

Cavallari went on to say that even if you know someone is not good for you, your “soul knows that there’s something we need to learn from this.” She joked that she “probably [wasn’t] helping anyone” with what she was saying. “I’m probably just complicating it more,” she joked with a laugh.

Cavallari previously opened up about her painful divorce from Cutler during a February episode of her podcast.

“During my divorce, I was like, ‘You know what? This is the first time in my life I wanna feel it all.’ I wanna experience it all. The good, the bad, the ugly, I wanna feel the pain,” she said. “I wanna sit in it. I don’t wanna rush or run from it.”

Cavallari explained, “And thank God I did, because that was where the majority of my growth and life came from. The pain and the hurt and the suffering is there to teach us something.”

The Laguna Beach alum tied the knot with Cutler in 2013, and they were married for nearly seven years before calling it quits in 2020.

After the pair started dating in 2010, Cutler proposed to Cavallari in 2011, but they called off their engagement later that year.

In November 2011, the pair got back together. They welcomed their first child, Camden, now 13, in 2012. In May 2014, Cavallari and Cutler welcomed their second son, Jaxon, now 11. They again expanded their family with daughter Saylor, 10, in November 2015.

In 2020, they announced their divorce, which they finalized in 2022.

Cavallari, for her part, is currently single. Cutler, meanwhile, found love with model Samantha Robertson, whom he proposed to in 2024.
