It was a wire-to-wire victory for LSU men’s basketball when it hosted Mississippi Valley State in the comforts of home for a non-conference matchup.
The Tigers (11-2) didn’t play with their food this go-round as they controlled every aspect of the game going on countless runs to come away with a 110-45 victory to close out non-conference play.
While they gave their home crowd a show, the Delta Devils (2-11) just couldn’t keep up. No MVS player scored double-digit points with its lead scorer finishing with just eight points. This manhandling win for the Tigers marks their ninth straight win at home and puts them on a three-game winning streak heading into SEC play next week.
Cam Carter goes off
Leading the Tigers in their dominating win over the Delta Devils was guard Cam Carter who caught fire in the first half. The 6-foot-3 guard scored 16 points in the first half finding his shot all over the court. He ended the game scoring his 1,000th career point and with a team-high 23 points.
This will go down as the Cam Carter game as the Delta Devils simply had no answer for the shifty guard. He wasn’t alone though. Three other Tigers scored double digits in the matchup guards Jordan Spears and Vyctorious Miller and forward Daimion Collins.
It’s raining threes
One of the biggest reasons for LSU’s fast-paced takeover was its ability to knock down shots from the perimeter. That has been a strong spot for the Tigers all season long and it continued against the Delta Devils. Carter was the main rainman for the Tigers scoring a team-high five three-pointers.
Overall, five players scored from beyond the arc. Next to Carter, Spears and Miller were the Tigers’ deep ball threats scoring a combined five three-pointers. The Tigers ended the game shooting close to 40% from the perimeter and close to 66% from the field.

Tigers’ stingy defense
LSU’s offense might have stolen the show but their defense was just as stellar in this matchup. They held the Delta Devils to just 45 points, the least amount of points they’ve allowed so far this season.
A key to the Tigers’ defensive success was their ability to force turnovers. Mississippi Valley finished the game with 17 turnovers killing any kind of offensive flow it tried to create. The Tigers snagged 10 steals in the game and finished with 13 points off of turnovers. Along with turnovers, the Delta Devils shot just wasn’t there, their lead scorer guard Tate Arthur was held to just four points after averaging 11 points coming into the matchup.
What’s next?
With this 65-point dub in the books for the Tigers, they turn their focus to Vanderbilt which comes to town on Jan. 4 to kickoff SEC play. They will host the Commodores at 3:30 p.m. CT.
