As President Donald Trump’s 100th day in office nears, a majority of Americans disapprove on how they think he is handling his job, as shown in a new NBC poll.
The NBC News Stay Tuned Poll, which surveyed 19,682 U.S. adults from April 11-20, found that 55% of respondents disapprove of Trump’s job, compared to 45% who approve. When asked, 30% of respondents indicated that they voted for Trump in the 2024 presidential election, 29% said they voted for Kamala Harris and a staggering 40% said they were not eligible to vote or did not vote.
When asked what emotions best describe how they feel about the current presidential administration, most respondents said “furious” and “dissatisfied.”
Compared to his first term, Trump started off with higher approval ratings this year, but his ratings in April 2017 and April 2025 are the two lowest approval marks among any newly-elected president since 1953, according to historical data from Gallup.
The new NBC poll is one of many that shows a declining tick in Trump’s approval rating. An April Economist/YouGov survey showed a -13% dip, down from a -10 net approval rating reported just a week earlier by Economist/YouGov.
A RealClearPolitics poll average shows that Trump’s aggregate approval rating turned net negative around March 13, following a week of a trade war with Canada. Since then, the RealClearPolitics average approval rating has dropped to -7.1 percentage points as of April 27.
NBC poll shows ratings on immigration, inflation, tariffs and DEI changes
The NBC News Stay Tuned Poll surveyed respondents on a myriad of topics, including how Trump is handling border security and immigration; inflation and cost of living; diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts; and tariffs.
For the most part, response averages were balanced, with issues that affect citizen’s pocketbooks seeing wider ranges.
For example, 60% of respondents said they disapprove of how Trump is handling inflation and cost of living in the U.S., while 40% approve. And 61% disapprove of how the president is handling tariffs and trade, while 39% approve.
Furthermore, more than half of respondents said they believe Trump’s tariffs will hinder their personal finances in the next year. Only 24% said they expect the policies to improve them, while 23% said they expect them to stay about the same.
How was the NBC poll conducted?
The NBC News Stay Tuned Poll was conducted through SurveyMonkey, an online survey platform. NBC News Stay Tuned is an online news platform, a news show that appears on popular platforms like Snapchat, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.
The poll had a margin of error for all of adults of plus or minus 2.2%, and plus or minus 2.7% for adults aged 18-29.
