Malik Nabers is taking baby steps to getting back on the field.

Though he didn’t take part in practice on Wednesday as he still works his way back from a concussion, the rookie wide receiver was able to do some work to the side with trainers.

Nabers, who missed Sunday’s win over the Seahawks, is still in concussion protocol. Coach Brian Daboll listed him as day-to-day.

Daboll said Nabers is “doing better” and is “improved.” He has cleared some steps of the protocol.

“That’s why we’re going to get him out here on the grass today. So, he didn’t do that last week. He’s feeling better,” Daboll said. “But again, I’ll take those very seriously and go through each step. But he is doing better. So, we’ll see how he does after he does some activity out there on the grass today.”

Prior to suffering the concussion in a loss to the Cowboys on Sept. 26, Nabers had been a star for the Giants, catching 35 passes for 386 yards and three touchdowns.

Starting running back Devin Singletary (groin) took part in practice on a limited basis. He reported no issues.

“It felt good running,” he said. Asked about playing on Sunday, he said, “I like my chances.”

Singletary was impressed by the performance of rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr., who ran for 129 yards on 18 carries against the Seahawks in his place.

“He was on fire,” Singletary said. “Dog mentality. Had a good game.”

Tracy, in turns, credited Singletary with being a role model for him.

“He has a lot of information to give, he’s always there for a helping hand,” Tracy said. “Any time we’re on the field, off the field, really whatever. He’s got good places to go eat. Literally anything I ask him, he’s there to help.”

Isaiah Simmons was named the NFC’s Special Teams Player of the Week on Wednesday. Simmons blocked Jason Myers’ 47-yard field goal attempt that would have tied the game. Bryce Ford-Wheaton caught the carom on the bounce and returned it 60 yards for the clinching touchdown with 55 seconds remaining.

Offensive linemen Greg Van Roten (rest) and Jon Runyan (illness) didn’t practice on Wednesday. Outside linebacker Brian Burns (groin) and defensive backs Dru Phillips (calf/shoulder) and Adoree’ Jackson (calf) were limited.
