New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani sparked outrage Friday when he unveiled a social media video where the socialist shared tips in Spanish on how the public should handle encounters with federal immigration authorities.Â
âIf you encounter ICE, these are your rights,â Mamdani, speaking in Spanish, opens the minute-and-half long video.
The social media-savvy mayor explains that ICE agents âcannot legally enter private spaces without a judicial order,â and tells the public to âlook for the words âUnited States District Courtâ and the judgeâs signature” on the document.Â
He even suggests asking ICE agents to âpass the order under the door.â
Mamdani further adds that people questioned by ICE on the street have the right to remain silent, and suggests they ask, âAm I free to go?â during an encounter and not sign any documents without first consulting a lawyer.Â
After sharing the cityâs legal support hotline, Mamdani concludes the video by noting New Yorkers have âthe right to protestâ and pledges to âprotect that right.âÂ
The video was blasted by Republican lawmakers and conservatives on social media.
âAt no point in this video is anyone urged to abide by the laws of the United States,â Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) wrote on X. âBecause it was not made for the benefit of the people of the United States.â
âDangerous incitement full of disturbing falsehoods by communist terrorist supporter,â Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton posted. âThis statement could put lives in danger.â
Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) called the clip âUnbelievable.â
âThe Mayor of New York is openly helping illegal aliens evade [ICE] and undermine the law,â Scott argued. âRadical Democrats are doing EVERYTHING in their power to recreate Bidenâs open border disaster.â
Rep. Nick LaLota (R-NY) fumed that Mamdani used âtaxpayer resources to instruct illegals, in Spanish, how to evade accountability.â
âBidenâs open border, canceling Remain in Mexico, sanctuary city policies and free hotels, healthcare and lawyers for illegals isnât compassion,â the congressman argued. âTheyâre policy choices that are making us more like France and House Democrats are in on it.â
LaLota added, âNYC is becoming more like Paris every day.â
Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) had a one-word response to the video: “Treason.”
