Don’t expect to see Mark Cuban’s name on the presidential ballot in 2028.

The former Mavericks majority owner gave a simple answer when asked about his political future over the weekend at the Principles First summit. Cuban was listed among various speakers for the three-day-long convention at the JW Marriott in Washington, D.C.

“Hell no. No. No, it’s not going to happen,” Cuban said. “Okay, if y’all write in and I don’t have to do [anything]. No, I don’t want to be president.”

After reiterating how he’s currently focused on health care, Cuban said his choice to avoid a presidential run came down to a family vote.

“When I’m on my deathbed at 117 years old because health care got better, do I want to look back and think, ‘Okay, I was president?’ Or do I want to say, ‘Okay, I was there when my kids graduated. I made my kids’ basketball games. I was there when whatever,’” Cuban said. “That’s where I want to be.”

Why Mark Cuban isn’t thinking about running for president any time soon

This wasn’t the first time Cuban has spoken against running for president. In March 2024, the billionaire told CNBC’s Morgan Brennan that he didn’t want to put his family through the long process of an election.

Cuban shared a similar sentiment nearly a year ago, indicating that he wanted to continue making memories with his teenage children.

The former Mavericks governor is no stranger to the political landscape. He was notably a high-profile supporter of Democratic nominee Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election.

Cuban sold a majority interest in the Mavericks to Miriam Adelson in 2023. He’s still a 27% stakeholder in the team, balancing his basketball duties with his pharmaceutical company, Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Co.
