Both seasons of With Love, Meghan have featured a star-studded lineup of celebrity chefs and Netflix personalities. But many of the more personal moments have featured some of Meghan Markle’s closest friends, many of whom knew her long before she became a royal. Among them was Lindsay Roth, who has known Meghan longer than most.
“We haven’t always lived in the same place at the same time, but we find ourselves connected through the same interests, or we’ll be thinking the same thing at the same time and message each other about it,” Roth told People about Meghan. “We laugh a lot. There’s just always been that level of support for each other. When you find someone that you are just 100% yourself with, it’s rare.”

Meghan and Lindsay met at Northwestern University.
Meghan attended Northwestern University’s School of Communication, graduating in 2003 with a double major in theater and international studies. It was there when she met Roth during a literature class in their first year. Roth later completed degrees at Northwestern’s School of Speech and the Medill School of Journalism.
She is a TV producer and published author.
Per her author bio, Roth has produced original content for NBC, BET, ESPN, the Food Network, Billboard, The Masters, The Grammys, The Tonys, and the U.S. Open. She is also a former producer for Larry King Now and the creator and executive producer of Haylie Duff’s Real Girl’s Kitchen on the Cooking Channel.
Roth also wrote two books: a contemporary novel, What Pretty Girls Are Made Of, and a dating and psychology book, Romances & Practicalities: A Love Story (Maybe Yours!) in 250 Questions, which was published earlier this year. But what Roth kept under wraps until publication day was that she included Meghan under the author’s acknowledgments as a surprise.
“I have saved that as a little token for her to see when the book comes out. I think it’s rare to find friends who love you unconditionally, and I’ve been lucky in my life to have a few who I truly consider family,” Roth told People. “It’s almost like those words aren’t enough.”

Meghan was the maid of honor at Lindsay’s wedding.
Before it was ever revealed that Meghan and Prince Harry were dating, Roth was included in a November 2016 feature in the New York Times wedding section. In the excerpt, Roth not only notes that Suits actress Meghan Markle was her maid of honor, but she took the role seriously.
“When Lindsay Roth’s maid of honor called and said that she needed to fly to Toronto, she knew Ms. Markle had something up her sleeve. The maid of honor, Meghan Markle, an actress in the television drama Suits, had arranged for her to have a private fitting at the Kleinfeld Hudson’s Bay in Toronto,” according to the NYT. “‘I felt like the most special bride,’ Ms. Roth said. When Ms. Roth tried on a Zuhair Murad gown, her entourage confirmed what she already knew. ‘I knew before I even saw myself in the mirror that it was ‘The Dress.’”
Today, Roth splits her time between New York and London with her husband and their two young sons.
Lindsay is still one of Meghan’s best friends.
Like Meghan’s friend Heather Dorak, Roth also publicly spoke out in Meghan’s defense in 2021 around the time of the Oprah Winfrey interview. “She’s funny. Like, laugh out loud funny. And smart,” Roth wrote in the caption. “She’s more than just a cover story.”
