A plane carrying the Minnesota Vikings was forced to make an emergency landing Saturday afternoon, shortly after leaving the Twin Cities, the team said

The plane experienced mechanical issues after departing Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport for Newark, New Jersey, ahead of the Vikings’ Sunday matchup with the New York Giants, forcing it to turn back.

“Shortly after departing, the team plane experienced mechanical issues that required a return to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport,” the NFL team said in a statement.

“The team will board a second plane momentarily and is now expected to arrive at Newark International Airport later tonight.”

Vikings cornerback Isaiah Rodgers posted on social media that the team is “ok” but offered no additional details about the incident.
