NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – Thursday marked day one of the Miss Nebraska preliminary competition where contestants took the stage for the first round of judging.
12 Miss Nebraska contestants are competing in this year’s competition, which is an official preliminary to the Miss America pageant that will be held later this year.
The contestants will participate in two days of competition where they will be divided into two groups and showcase their talent, fitness and evening wear.
12 titleholders are also vying for the crown. Every participant will compete in the same categories as the Miss titleholders.
At least four girls from North Platte are competing in the teen competition.
Earlier in the afternoon on Thursday, all 24 contestants and their Sparklers, younger girls assigned to each contestant in hopes to boost morale, took a break from rehearsals in the commons area at the North Platte High School. They instead signed autographs and took pictures during an ice cream social with their “little sisters.”
Organizers say the social was a nice way to wrap up a weeks-long rehearsal before show time.
“I am very excited with this being my first time surrounded by so many amazing young women,” said Sierra Little, Miss Scotts Bluff County. “I just think that we’re all empowering each other and doing this as a team, and no matter who wins we are all encouraging greatness and we can make a difference in our community.”
Day two of the preliminary competition will be held at the North Platte High School on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
