JACKSON, Tenn. — Miss Volunteer America is back in the Hub City.

The Miss Volunteer America pageant is a scholarship program and service initiative based here in Tennessee that aims to empower young women through opportunities and educational scholarships.

Sunday, the contestants checked in at The Ned and held a meet and greet at Hub City Brewing.

“They have [put] in a great effort representing, like I said, you know, their state. Representing what they believe is their value their serve initiative and becoming an inspiration for a new generation of pageant girls that might be coming to the Miss Volunteer America pageant,” said Luis Rodriguez, the national social media coordinator.

This pageant sees women representing states nationwide compete for the title of Miss Volunteer America in the Hub City. It serves as a prestigious opportunity for the world of pageantry.

“This year we have 50 contestants from all over the country,” Rodriguez said. “They have prepared so hard for this and it’s just, we’re very excited to have them.”

The phases of the competition consist of each contestant performing in talent, interview, evening gown and fitness and wellness.

“A lot of these girls, they put a lot of effort, you know, going to the gym, to look good, to feel good, and it’s not just about the physical appearance,” Rodriguez said. “They have to prepare mentally to be able to go out to the community, represent the program and especially, you know, be able to explain their serve initiative.”

Scholarship, education, responsibility, volunteerism, and empowerment of the pageant’s crown represent a principle in the organization’s mission.

The competition will take place June 19-22 at the Carl Perkins Civic Center.

If you’re not able to catch the pageant in person, their live stream is free to watch on their website.
