The Miss Yuma County Scholarship Pageant is this Friday, Nov. 8, at the Yuma Civic Center, 1440 W. Desert Hills Drive.
Doors will open at 6 p.m., with the competition starting an hour later. Tickets will be sold at the door for $20.
This year’s pageant will showcase 13 local young ladies ages 14-28 in interview skills, talent, on-stage presence and style competing for six titles–Miss Yuma County/Miss Yuma County Teen, Miss Sunshine City/Miss Sunshine City Teen and Miss Ocean to Ocean/Miss Ocean to Ocean Teen–while earning education scholarships.
The titleholders will then go on to compete at the Miss Arizona State pageant in June, representing Yuma County.
“We have added two new titles to the Yuma Scholarship Organization, Miss Sunshine City and Teen as well as Miss Ocean to Ocean and Teen,” said Gabi Marshall, executive director of the Yuma Scholarship Organization.
“This has allowed us to take more local young women to Miss Arizona where they compete for a chance to earn an (Arizona State University) scholarship (for) the top 10 or a Western New Mexico scholarship for the top five. Our new titles also earn an (Arizona Western College) scholarship,” she added.
At the last Miss Arizona Pageant, four of six Miss Yuma County Title Holders came back home to Yuma with cash scholarships.
“Our Miss Yuma County Teen is currently at ASU with her entire year completely paid for because of the Miss America Opportunity that starts in local towns just like ours,” said Marshall.
Locally, each “Miss” titleholder that wins will earn a Presidential Scholarship through AWC as well as a cash scholarship for $3,000 to use for their education.
Each “Teen” titleholder who is dual-enrolled will receive an AWC scholarship for $300 as well as $2,000 for their education. Every delegate who doesn’t win a title will also receive a scholarship, $250 for “Miss” delegates and $150 for “Teen” delegates.
