LONGTIME MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell has confirmed she’s quitting as the network reels from a flurry of abrupt departures.
Mitchell, MSNBC’s longest-running daytime host, is leaving after 17 years with the network.
The Andrea Mitchell Reports host confirmed that her last day of hosting duties be Friday at 12 pm.
She’ll continue working for the Comcast-owned company as NBC News’ chief foreign affairs correspondent and chief Washington correspondent.
In October, Mitchell, 78, announced that she would be leaving the network, but didn’t give a concrete date.
At the time, she said, “After sixteen years of being in the anchor chair every day, I want time to do more of what I love the most: connecting, listening, and reporting in the field.”
Her departure comes in the midst of a massive network-wide shakeup, as viewers snubbed the programming after Donald Trump handily won the 2024 presidential election.
In January, MSNBC President Rashida Jones announced she would be stepping down after four years, and just last week, big-hitting political reporter Chuck Todd announced his departure.
Longtime talent is slipping through the cracks as the network attempts to break away from NBC News and create a spin-off with CNBC under new corporate leadership.
In the turbulent transition, they had to bring celebrity firebrand Rachel Maddow back to full-time coverage in a last-ditch effort to bring back ratings.
As Mitchell’s time in the anchor chair comes to a close, some viewers admitted they couldn’t wait for her to leave.
“Good riddance,” wrote one pleased X user.
“Will MSNBC go down as well? We can only hope!”
Another person said, “Another one bites the dust,” and a different user wrote, “Thank goodness.”
But the network thanked Mitchell for her years of contributions and wished her well in her next endeavors.
“Andrea remains one of the country’s foremost and most trusted experts on foreign policy and domestic politics,” NBC executives said in a memo.
“Her deep sourcing and ability to land the biggest-name news-making interviews are unmatched.
“We are so pleased that she will remain an essential part of the News Group for years to come.”
NETWORK NIGHTMARE
In December, MSNBC anchors were forced to take massive pay cuts if they wanted to keep their jobs.
Joy Reid, who hosts The ReidOut, took a huge cut from her reported $3 million a year salary.
And earlier in November, Maddow had to slash $5 million from her unbelievably high annual payouts, back when she was only working one day a week.
Executives’ only hope is that outrage over Trump’s first 100 days in office will lead die-hard liberals back to their coverage.
