Another date has been locked in on the 2026 awards calendar. NBCUniversal and the Television Academy have announced that the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on Sept. 14 — a Monday night as opposed to the traditional Sunday to avoid a conflict with the network’s highly rated Sunday Night Football. The ceremony will take place at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
The 2026 ceremony will be held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles; the proceedings will air live on NBC and stream live on Peacock. Emmy nominations will be revealed on a date to be announced later.

Meanwhile, the Creative Arts Emmy Awards are once again scheduled to take place the week before their primetime counterparts on Sept. 5 and Sept. 6.
This year’s Primetime Emmys ceremony saw viewership climb to its highest number in four years. Hosted by Nate Bargatze, the 2025 Emmys attracted 7.4 million viewers on its Sunday night berth. The Apple TV comedy, The Studio, was the big winner, taking home 13 statuettes — the combined number from the Creative Arts and Primetime Emmys — besting the 11 Emmys received by The Bear in 2024. Elsewhere, HBO’s The Penguin claimed nine statuettes; Adolescence, Severance, and SNL50: The Anniversary Special all received eight; and The Pitt, Andor, and The Traitors scored five.
A host for the 2026 Emmys has yet to be announced. Interestingly, several of the other major awards ceremonies are bringing back their respective emcees from this year. Chelsea Handler will host the Critics Choice Awards for the fourth consecutive year on Jan. 4; Nikki Glaser is returning for the Golden Globes on Jan. 11; and Conan O’Brien will repeat as Oscar host on March 15.
