NEW BERN, N.C. — Margaret Cobb Fairchild, a New Bern resident, is set to participate in the “Miss North Carolina Senior America” pageant next weekend in Pinehurst, northwest of Fayetteville. This will be her second time competing in the pageant, which is exclusively for women aged 60 and above. Last year, Fairchild made her pageant debut and was voted Miss Congeniality.

Fairchild, originally from Missouri and a retired flight attendant, expressed that her motivation for participating is not the prizes but the opportunity to forge new friendships.

“I wanted to be able to meet more friends, make new friends again,” Fairchild said. “That was the number one thing when I was asked about joining. I said – I would love to make new friends – and I’ve got some more new ones, and the ladies are genuine.”

In addition to her pageant pursuits, Fairchild enjoys sewing and playing the piano.
