CommQuest sets Taste of Hope fundraiser

CANTON – Taste of Hope, a fundraiser to benefit CommQuest communities, will be at 6 p.m. April 16 at 601 Cleveland Ave NW, Building A, Floor 3.

The event will showcase food from some of the area’s best restaurants, including creations by celebrity Food Network chef Stephan C. Baity. There also will be auction packages. Tickets are $125 and available at www.CommQuest.org or by calling 330-994-1455.

Orchestra to play the music of Journey

CANTON – The Canton Symphony Orchestra will present The Music of Journey with Jeans N’ Classics at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Umstattd Hall Zimmermann Symphony Center, 2331 17th St. NW.

Museum to present preservation workshop 

CANTON – Collections manager Kait Bergert and archivist Mark Holland will present a preservation workshop at the McKinley Presidential Library & Museum, 800 McKinley Monument Drive NW, at 10 a.m. April 10.

Participants will learn how and where to store family artifacts, some options on where to donate or conserve them, and what they can do now to begin caring for them.

COMPASS sets events for Sexual Assault Awareness Month

CANTON – April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Throughout the month, COMPASS will host events in Stark County to bring awareness and support its mission of supporting survivors of sexual assault.

On April 11, join COMPASS at the Auricle, 201 Cleveland Ave. NW, for Rock for Resilience, a rock benefit to highlight the strength of survivors of sexual assault. All proceeds will go to COMPASS services. Doors open at 7 p.m.; the show begins at 8 p.m. Presale tickets are $15, available at theauricle.net.

Funding available for children’s health needs

JACKSON TWP. – Liberty HealthShare has established the Sharing Hearts Fund for Pediatric Wellness, a charitable arm of the health care sharing ministry that seeks to provide support to Stark County families with medical needs related to pediatric wellness.

Families seeking funding will go through an application process during which they will identify their desired procedure, such as physical exams, dental exams and teeth cleaning, vision exams and eyeglasses, and hearing tests, and explain their financial need. The application is on the Sharing Hearts Fund website at www.libertyhealthshare.org/sharing-hearts. Paper applications are available at the Liberty HealthShare center of operations at 4455 Hills & Dales Road NW. All applications received by 5 p.m. April 30 will be considered for the first round of funding.

To help evaluate grant requests, Liberty HealthShare has formed an Application Review Committee made up of Stark County leaders who work in fields related to the well-being of residents, including representatives from social service agencies and churches.

All money generated through donations and grants is separate from the operational funding of the Liberty HealthShare ministry. History Discussion Group to talk about toys and games

MASSILLON – The Massillon Museum’s History Discussion Group will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday. Moderator Mandy Altimus Stahl will lead the group’s discussion of toys and games. Participants are encouraged to bring some of their favorite toys and games from childhood.

The History Discussion Group meets on the first Tuesday of every month in the Fred F. Silk Community Room on the museum’s lower level. The museum is at 121 Lincoln Way E. Attendance is free and open to everyone.

Resource fair at museum Saturday

MASSILLON – In conjunction with its “Sight Unseen: International Photography by Blind Artists” exhibition, the Massillon Museum, 121 Lincoln Way E, will host a resource fair from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Admission is free to the Massillon Museum and the resource fair. Everyone is welcome. The exhibition includes braille labels and audio guides and Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities will provide an ASL interpreter for the resource fair. The museum is fully accessible, and a Sensory Room is available.

Guests can view the exhibition, enjoy free refreshments, and meet with regional and statewide organizations that provide services to people with disabilities. Art Possible Ohio, the Philomatheon Society of the Blind, Stark County Board of Developmental Disabilities, The Workshops, Inc., Stark A11y, and the Massillon Museum will display resource tables in Gessner Hall. The Massillon Public Library Bookmobile and the Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities Mobile Service Unit (OOD) will be outside.

Pike Ridge Park grand opening April 11

PIKE TWP. – Stark Parks will have a grand opening of Pike Ridge Park, 7498 East Sparta Ave. SE, from 1 to 3 p.m. April 11. Remarks and the ribbon cutting will start around 1:15 p.m., with an approximately two-hour guided hike to follow.

PLAIN TWP. – A free special needs community resource fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, 6900 Market Ave N. The event will feature over 80 vendors that provide services and support to the special needs community at any age.

PLAIN TWP. – Plain Township has launched the lineup and ticket sales for the 2025 Thursday Night Concert Series. All shows will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Legacy Park Amphitheater.

Benefit concerts set for Whispering Grace Horses

A Chorus for a Cause will present “All the Pretty Little Horses,” a concert of choral music, to benefit the work of Whispering Grace Horses. All concerts are free to attend, but donations are what help support our cause.

Stark County concerts are scheduled for:

  • 4 p.m. today at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Massillon (with raffle baskets included).

  • 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephen Martyr Lutheran Church in Plain Township (with raffle baskets included).

Doors open at 3:30 p.m. for both concerts.

Whispering Grace Horses’ mission is to provide therapeutic horses for people facing emotional challenges, PTSD and special needs.
