A new year means there’s lots more to come for Nicole Kidman.
“Looking forward into 2026 xx,” Kidman, 58, captioned an Instagram Story post on Thursday, January 1. The image featured the actress standing alongside daughters Sunday, 17, and Faith, 15, whom she shares with estranged husband Keith Urban.
Kidman and her daughters were photographed from behind while looking out over a body of water. The actress added fireworks GIFs into the image, which showed her and her kids wearing New Year’s party headbands.
Kidman’s post looking ahead comes after she experienced a year full of ups and downs in her personal life.
Us Weekly confirmed in September 2025 that Kidman had filed for divorce from Urban after 19 years of marriage. She cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split and requested to be the “primary residential parent” of their daughters. (Kidman also shares daughter Bella, 33, and son Connor, 30, with ex-husband Tom Cruise.)
“They had been quietly separated for a while now but needed time to figure out if they were going to actually divorce,” a source exclusively told Us of Urban and Kidman in October. “She had faith they could work it out.”
The same insider told Us that the split “wasn’t” Kidman’s decision, adding she was “devastated” by the breakup.
“Her trust was lost, and it was too far gone. Nicole had been trying to get them to work on their marriage and did not want this to get out to the public,” the source continued. “She didn’t tell many friends what was really going on with them and was holding this in for months.”
The former couple were spending “a lot of time apart due to work commitments” and had been living “separate lives,” the same insider explained. Kidman and Urban’s last outing together was at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 game, which took place in Nashville this past June.
The source told Us that Kidman and Urban “were not on the same page” when it came to their relationship.
“Rumors around town have been circling that they were living apart, were focused on their own projects and that Keith had moved on,” they added. “They are moving in two different directions, and their worlds are not overlapping as much as they once did. The distance between them had grown more obvious recently.”
Kidman offered a rare update on her personal life in November 2025 during a conversation with Ariana Grande for Interview Magazine.
“I’m hanging in there,” Kidman said honestly when Grande, 32, asked how she was doing. (Their chat took place about two weeks after news of Kidman and Urban’s divorce broke.)
A separate source told Us in October 2025 that Kidman was in a “good headspace” following her split from Urban.
“The hardest part is navigating the dynamic with their daughters,” the insider said, noting that the actress never “wanted a broken family.”
She is focused on “creating new traditions with her daughters and keeping their home life as steady and loving as possible,” the source explained. Kidman “raised her daughters to be strong and is leading by example for them.”
