JACKSON, Tenn. — Thursday marks night one for ladies competing for the title of Miss Teen Volunteer America here in the Hub City.

After yesterdays rehearsals contestants are now ready to show off their hard work.

“Our judges are looking to find the most well rounded individual who can best represent our organization. So we just want to find the most well rounded teen title holder that can represent our organization,” said Scott Hillburn, chief administrative officer for Miss Volunteer America.

With 51 contestants it can be hard to decide on which contestant is the right one to hold the title. However, these judges are doing the hard task of selecting the next Miss Teen Volunteer America.

“We have a very diverse panel of judges this year. We have judges from all across the country. We have one judge who’s actually a clogger. We have other judges that are from the medical field, who have been former titles holders in the organization,” said Hillburn.

These contestants are also competing for a pretty big prize.

“All of them are obviously looking for the crown but we will be awarding scholarship money as well. So we are a scholarship pageant, so we do provide scholarship monies for our winners and runners up so that they can further their education,” said Hillburn.

Each contestant will be judged in four categories, each equaling 25% to potentially add up to 100%. Those categories are Interviews, Evening Gown, Talent and Health and Fitness.

“All of our contestants met with our judges today. They met with them for six minutes — it’s a panel type interview,” said Hillburn.

Friday night will be night two of Miss Teen Volunteer America Pageant at the Carl Perkins Civic Center.
