TODAY’s Editorial Standards
At TODAY, our mission is to bring you trusted and high-quality news and lifestyle content, all grounded in our core values of accuracy, fairness and transparency.
We base our reporting on named sources, and when we don’t, we will tell you how we were able to confidently gather the information using an unnamed source or sources and why we are relying on them. We strive to give every person we cover the chance to share their side before we publish or broadcast our reports.
And because our goal is to get it right 100% of the time, if we ever make a mistake or discover an error, we’ll take prompt action to correct, clarify or update it.
Behind the scenes, we uphold the highest ethical standards. We seek to recuse ourselves from any real or perceived conflicts of interest.
You’ll always see sponsorships and branded content clearly labeled, and personal opinions are not a part of our news reporting. We believe our audience is best served when our team, guests and sources reflect the full variety of perspectives in the world we cover.
That way, you can trust that every story on TODAY is the product of open-minded reporting, fairness and total transparency.

About Shop TODAY
Shop TODAY editors and writers are shopping enthusiasts who seek out what’s new and best in style, beauty, home and tech. They scour the internet, comb through customer reviews, consult with experts and put products to the test to find quality options on the market, with a focus on affordable finds that will make life rewarding, easier and more fun. Learn more about Shop TODAY here.
Shop TODAY’s Methodology
Shop TODAY is editorially independent and our team of editors and writers work hard to pick products that we think our readers and viewers will love.
For product testing, our team of editors and writers are incorporating items into their everyday lives: logging thousands of steps in walking sneakers during daily commutes, taking travel essentials across the country — and sometimes overseas — to determine durability and user satisfaction, taking setting sprays to the brink through strenuous workouts and so much more. We regularly log product feedback (including likes, dislikes and whether we’d recommend to readers and viewers) and incorporate our findings into digital, broadcast, social and other coverage.
We also make product recommendations based on expert feedback from source interviews and internal product pitches for broadcast segments.
Meet the Shop TODAY Team
Shop TODAY consists of seasoned editors and reporters from a vast range of cultural and professional backgrounds. Each member of the team has several years of experience writing, researching and testing products in their respective coverage areas, and they utilize their knowledge to drive their recommendations to our reader base.

NBC
History of TODAY
TODAY’s Background
NBC pioneered morning television more than 70 years ago when the network debuted its new show, TODAY, in 1952.
The brainchild of NBC President Pat Weaver, TODAY was conceived as a two-hour morning TV show that would be both entertaining and informative. Though he’d settled on the snappy name, “Rise and Shine,” Weaver’s wife convinced him to change it to “TODAY.” And the rest, as they say, is history.
Since then, the live broadcast program has become a cornerstone of American television, drawing millions of viewers each day who tune in for breaking news, celebrity interviews, live concerts, sports, business, lifestyle and all the latest happenings in pop culture.
30 Years of Studio 1A and the TODAY Plaza
The year 2024 marked the 30 anniversary of TODAY’s Studio 1A and the plaza at Rockefeller Center.
On June 20, 1994, Studio 1A opened to the world and has since produced three decades of unforgettable moments including dazzling Halloween costume reveals, live concerts performed by some of music’s biggest luminaries like Beyoncè, Taylor Swift, Celine Dion and Prince, along with milestones like the plaza’s transformation into a vaccine clinic at the height of the pandemic, as well as an impromptu concert venue for disaster relief in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
