Iowa House Speaker Pat Grassley is running for his seat again in 2026.

Grassley has held the office for House District 57 (Des Moines) area since 2023.

Grassley previously served in the 17th district (2007-2013) and the 50th district (2013 – 2023).

He has served as speaker since 2020.

In his reelection announcement, Grassley said, “My commitment remains rooted in the three roles that define me: serving as your voice in the Iowa House, being a dedicated father to my children, and working the land as a farmer. I’m driven to balance these responsibilities while delivering results for you.”

Rep. Grassley had previously said he was considering a run for governor after Gov. Kim Reynolds announced she wasn’t seeking reelection in 2026. However, this announcement puts that to rest.

Former Iowa Rep. Brad Sherman and current State Rep. Eddie Andrews have already thrown their hat in the ring and will face off in the Republican primary next June. US Rep. Randy Feenstra and State Sen. Mike Bousselot have launched exploratory committees for governor but haven’t officially announced yet. Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird told Iowa’s News Now on Thursday that she is still considering a run for governor and that if she were to throw her hat in the ring she would love to have President Donald Trump’s endorsement. She has been a major supporter of the President and was the first Iowa leader to throw her support behind him during the last Iowa caucuses.
