Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not be present on Sunday at the Remembrance Day parade in London with the rest of the Royal Family.

The couple, who stepped back from life as senior royals in 2020, no longer attend the annual Cenotaph Service in central London, which takes place every year.

At the service, the monarch, along with other members of the Royal Family, leads the nation in Remembrance.

As the bells of Big Ben toll eleven, and a single gun on Horse Guards Parade is fired, two minutes of complete silence is held to remember all the lives lost in war. After the two minute silence, the King and other senior figures, including High Commissioners from the Commonwealth, lay wreaths of poppies at the foot of the Cenotaph.

Before quitting life as a member of the Royal Family, Prince Harry attended the parade, which has a special meaning to him as he served in Afghanistan, and was in the Army for around 10 years.

Since relocating overseas to America, the duke, 40, has not been a part of the event, which is reportedly hard for him, a royal expert claimed last year.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said the Duke of Sussex will struggle watching the service and not being there. He told Express.co.uk last year on the day of the parade: “The military will always be an important part of Prince Harry’s life and, however he may pretend to the contrary, he must be deeply conflicted.

“Harry and Meghan have, in recent years, commemorated this special weekend in their own way, with activities linked to the military. Yet given Harry’s upbringing and the importance which he attaches to the code that those who have served are always part of the military family, he cannot but view what has happened with very deep regret, especially today, when he was absent at the Cenotaph once again.”

Over the last few years, the couple have stayed in the US for Remembrance Day and have tried to play their part in remembering those who lost their lives.

According to The Independent, last year on November 8, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex met the families of US military veterans and active-duty service members during a visit to Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California, just days after Remembrance Sunday.

Later the same evening, couple joined the Navy SEAL Foundation for the opening of a new training facility for veterans.

It is not known what the couple plan to do to mark the occasion this year in America.
