MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) – The Michigan Bureau of Elections (BOE) confirmed the integrity and accuracy of the 2024 General Election through a comprehensive report on recounts, ballot audits, and procedural audits.
“Careful, detailed, and thorough post-election audits are critical to election security and accuracy,” Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said.
Three types of statewide reviews were conducted: a recount of the Michigan House 44th District race, a statistical ballot audit in 166 precincts, and procedural audits in 378 precincts.
The recount confirmed the original winner of the 44th District, with the vote margin increasing slightly from 61 to 79.
The statewide ballot audit, involving 119,567 ballots, found a minimal difference of 33 votes between machine and hand counts, a typical variance in such processes.
Both major presidential candidates gained votes in the hand count, with Kamala Harris gaining 11 and Donald Trump gaining 10.
Procedural audits verified compliance with election processes and confirmed accurate election outcomes, while identifying areas for enhanced future training.
The report concluded that Michigan’s election system effectively and securely tabulated the more than 5.7 million ballots cast.
