The Ravens’ quarterback room is thin.
After injuries to starter Lamar Jackson and backup Tyler Huntley in Sunday’s loss to the Bills, undrafted rookie quarterback Joe Fagnano entered the game and went 10 of 21 with 91 yards and an interception.
Fagnano, a UConn product, himself got beat up during the game, leading to questions about whether he could play Baltimore’s next game. The Ravens (4-4) have a short week with a “Thursday Night Football” clash with the Jaguars (5-2) looming, giving them little time to figure out their options under center.
Fagnano, though, said he believes he will be good to go.
“After a football game, you’re always going to have some bumps and bruises,” Fagnano told reporters postgame. “We’ll kind of see, but yes.”
In his first snap back since a high-ankle sprain sidelined him in Week 4, two-time MVP Jackson hurt his thumb, an injury that will require surgery and sent him to injured reserve, possibly ending his season. His backup, Huntley, came into the game and went on to injure his toe after only a short time on the field. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Huntley is believed to be experiencing turf toe and will have an MRI Monday to determine how much time he might miss.
Ravens head coach Jesse Minter said it will take some time for the team to figure out their plan under center for Thursday’s AFC battle with 5-2 Jacksonville.
“We’ll have to see what, obviously, [Huntley’s] status is and make sure Joe made it through the game OK,” Minter said. “We’ll figure that out over the next 24 hours.”
With Huntley starting during Jackson’s first injury, the Ravens went 1-2, and it remains to be seen how they might fare with a third-stringer potentially seeing multiple starts.
