Red Bull New York pulled out of a deal to bring in midfielder Caden Clark from D.C. United, though it’s unclear why the club made the decision, The Post confirmed.
News of a potential deal first popped up on Friday in a report by The Athletic, but things seemed to come apart in the days that followed. A source with knowledge of the situation indicated to The Post that there had been “no ill intent” and that the deal “just did not work out in the end.”
The deal had been in the final stages, with The Athletic’s Tom Bogert reporting that it had been agreed on and travel was being planned.
The news comes with just days left before the summer transfer window closes on Wednesday, and the Red Bulls have been relatively quiet in the transfer market.
The lack of movement or even news connecting the club to any impact players has left Red Bull fans frustrated with the team’s front office.
The Red Bulls had just one win under the club’s belt in the month of August, which included an ugly 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Union over the weekend.

Red Bull New York head of sport Julian de Guzman recently told The Post in a sit-down interview that there are a number of factors that go into the players that the club brings in.
“How are they as a human being? And that’s the one thing I could say is such a big factor when you’re identifying these players that come in,” he said. “Who are the guys that are coming around this nucleus of talented players we have locally to elevate the team based on their qualities?”
