Robert Cosby Jr. suffered an alleged overdose on Valentine’s Day 2023, just three years before his death at age 23, Us Weekly can exclusively report.

A report from the Salt Lake City Police Department obtained by Us reveals that on February 14, 2023, fire and medical personnel arrived at Mary Cosby and Robert Cosby Sr.’s home at around 4:24 p.m. and performed life-saving procedures until he became conscious.

“I assisted in strapping ill/sick person Robert Cosby [Jr.] to a medical chair to get him down stairs and safely into an ambulance. Medical staff informed me that Robert overdosed on drugs and that med initiated chest compressions until Robert became conscious,” the report read.

The responding officer noted that Robert Jr. was then transported to a nearby hospital.

An additional report from November 2022 obtained by Us outlined a separate incident in which Mary allegedly refused to cooperate with police in a hit-and-run investigation. However, the officer’s notes did not mention Robert Jr.

“While trying to figure out what the address was with dispatch, the vehicle they were looking for drove past me. I attempted to turn around to pull it over but the vehicle quickly pulled into [Mary and Robert Sr.’s residence] in the far left garage of the address and closed the garage door,” the report stated.

When the officer asked Mary who was driving the vehicle, she alleged it hadn’t “been driven in forever.” After the cop told her that he had “just watched it pull in,” he said she “refused to give me any information.”

Mary also reportedly accused the officer of racial profiling, telling him, “Don’t discredit our race” and “Don’t discredit the fact that you guys don’t care about lives.”

During the conversation, Mary had Robert Sr. on speakerphone and he allegedly told the officer, “Be glad I’m not there.”

“Her husband on the phone also stated that he does not like cops,” the report read, adding that Mary accused law enforcement of not liking them because “we are African American.”

Mary allegedly refused to give the officer her information and instructed him to tell Cottonwood Heights Police Department — which was investigating the alleged hit-and-run — to “come to their door like we did” if they wanted to talk.

Another report showed that Robert Jr. was questioned by police on January 9, 2026, over an alleged 2024 domestic violence incident with his then-wife, Alexiana Arian Smokoff. At the time, Mary’s son was already in jail over a separate incident involving Smokoff and her father.

According to his statement exclusively obtained by Us, Robert Jr. admitted “they were using fentanyl at the time” and he did “not remember everything” about the alleged incident. Robert Jr. told the officer he “recalled arguing” with her “because she took some of his ‘drugs.’”

“I pushed her just with my hands,” he confessed. “I might have kicked her off the bed or something.”

Robert Jr. said he did not witness any injuries on Smokoff’s body as a result of the incident. He also claimed he woke Mary up and admitted he pushed Smokoff off the bed.

Robert Jr. “cried” to his mother “because he was going through a lot” with his wife, he recalled to the officer.

He also opened up about his mental health, with the report noting, “Robert thinks he was in ‘psychosis’ for a bit because he was ‘acting erratic and irrational’ and not really acting like himself. Robert described himself during ‘psychosis’ as doing ‘stuff’ he ‘didn’t mean.’”

During the alleged 2024 incident, the alleged victim — who was identified at the time as A.S. and later revealed to be Smokoff through court documents — claimed Robert Jr. became “extremely upset” over the flushed drugs and began pushing and kicking her in the stomach.

He then allegedly “grabbed her by the throat” and “strangled her” to the point that she lost consciousness.

She claimed that she didn’t report the alleged incident to police because “Robert’s family members contacted her and begged her not to involve law enforcement.” She also told officers that “she believes Robert could kill her.”

The report noted that the alleged victim claimed to have sustained several injuries as a result of the alleged incident, including “bruising on her eye (black eye), lacerations to her face and chest, claw marks to her face and neck, finger marks around her neck,” as well as a “swollen and sore” face.

Robert Jr. denied causing any injuries to Smokoff, telling the officer she sustained a black eye after she “was hit by someone while doing drugs” a month before their alleged domestic violence incident.

Mary, for her part, denied being aware of any physical violence between the two.

“[Mary] described the two arguing verbally but she was not aware of any physical altercations between them,” she told an officer in January 2026, per the report. “[She] denied having any information that her son, Robert, was ever physically violent with” and “said Robert is not violent, she didn’t raise him that way.”

The RHOSLC star also denied calling Smokoff or seeing her injuries, telling the officer that she didn’t have her former daughter-in-law’s phone number “due to her being ‘toxic.’” Smokoff filed for divorce late last year.

At the time of his death, Mary’s son was facing two domestic violence charges — felony aggravated assault and felony assault — related to the alleged 2024 incident.

When Us reached out to the Cosby family lawyer, Clayton Simms, about the three police reports, he responded, “It’s unfortunate these false allegations are popping up at a time when Mary and Robert Sr. are grieving. They’re focused on healing. They’re focused on good and positive memories of their son. Robert Jr.’s relationship with his ex-wife was toxic and difficult. Mary has never been convicted of any crime. There are some false statements in some of those reports. Rather than address them directly, she’s just focused on grieving and moving forward in a positive way.”

Us confirmed that the Salt Lake City Police Department responded to a call for an overdose on February 23, 2026, and discovered Robert Jr. dead upon arrival. His cause of death has not been confirmed.

Robert Jr.’s funeral was held in Utah on Saturday, March 7, with all of Mary’s RHOSLC costars reportedly in attendance. TMZ confirmed that while producers for the Bravo show were at the service, it was not filmed for the upcoming season.

Following Robert Jr.’s death, Mary released a statement on behalf of herself and Robert Sr.

“Our beloved son Robert Jr. has been called home to the Lord. Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise and in knowing he is finally at peace,” she shared via Instagram on February 25. “We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow.”
