Roger Federer is returning to the US Open.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion who retired in 2022 is set to play two exhibition matches tonight, Aug. 25, during US Open Fan Week.
In the first, he’ll face off against rival Andy Roddick in a singles match. Roddick won the 2003 US Open, just one year before Federer won five US Open titles in a row from 2004 to 2008. Then, Federer will team up with John McEnroe in a doubles match against Roddick and Andre Agassi.

“”I don’t know how it’s going to go tomorrow,” Federer said yesterday. “So, there is a lot of uncertainty — but a lot of happiness that I can return to Arthur Ashe, a place where I have had so many beautiful moments.”
Federer retired from professional tennis in September 2022, but played his last US Open three years earlier in 2019. In his final US Open, Federer reached the quarterfinals before falling to Grigor Dimitrov. Beyond his exhibition matches today, Federer says he has no plans to return to competition.
