It’s been an eventful few days for Royce White, and it appears it’s going to stay that way.
White made another cryptic social media post on Saturday night, adding fuel to the fire that he is a transgender athlete, just after he announced he would declare for the 2027 WNBA Draft as transgender.
White posted an old highlight video of himself dunking when he was a member of the Canadian basketball team the Island Storm, commenting on the backlash he’s been facing about being transgender.
“I haven’t even been publicly trans for 72 hours and I’m already getting so much,” White wrote on X. “I just want to hoop with my girls in my feminine era! Why can’t y’all be happy for me?”
After he made the post, White added a comment: “Now that’s a transition!”
Hours after Enes Kanter Freedom announced on Friday that he was planning to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft, White also announced that he would enter the draft next season.
On Friday, White told Fox News, “I’m transgender. I’m a woman… I identify as sometimes identifying as a woman for purposes of… professional basketball.”
During the weekend, White has been active on social media, posting about his intentions to enter the draft despite facing backlash from professional athletes, including Los Angeles native Robin Lopez.
White had a short-lived NBA career after being selected in the first round of the 2012 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets.
In 2014, White appeared in three games for the Sacramento Kings, playing three minutes.
In his post-playing career, White has been involved in politics and is a Republican candidate in Minnesota for the U.S. Senate.
White and Freedom’s decision to declare for the 2027 WNBA Draft came after Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham told ESPN that “girls in sport” should “not have to go against biological men.”
