Despite missing the cut for the first time in 79 tournaments at the 2026 Genesis Scottish Open last weekend, Scottie Scheffler has little to worry about regarding his golf game heading into The Open Championship, which began on Thursday.

The World No. 1 fired off a 2-under 68 during his first round, placing him in firm contention heading into Friday.

Scheffler does, however, have something to worry about regarding his appearance, which he conveyed when speaking to the media on July 8.

“My hair has been receding for years, so 30 is not going to have any effect on that,” Scheffler said with a smile. The four-time major winner was asked whether turning 30 years old on Father’s Day last month has made him more reflective about what he has accomplished in his career.

It’s fun to see Scheffler speak so candidly about himself, and his blunt, self-deprecating nature is another reason why he has become so beloved among golf fans for other things aside from his world-class performances.

The good news is that Scheffler doesn’t need great hair like some of his PGA Tour peers, such as Tommy Fleetwood or Keith Mitchell, to outperform them at The Open Championship this weekend.

And despite missing last weekend’s cut, Scheffler should be feeling confident heading into this seasons final major, given that he won last year’s Open Championship.

Granted, this year’s tournament isn’t played at the same course as last year, it’s at The Royal Birkdale Professional Shop in Southport, England. He hoisted the Claret Jug at Royal Portrush Golf Club in County Antrim, Northern Ireland in 2025.

But Scheffler’s game clearly travels overseas well, and it’s hard to imagine he’ll miss two straight cuts after making 78 straight before last weekend.
