Scottie Scheffler didn’t take too kindly to a fan at Medinah No. 3 who shouted at International Team opponent Nico Echavarria in the middle of his swing during Sunday singles at the Presidents Cup, and the World No. 1 showed plenty of class afterward.
Echavarria had been down three through 13 holes against Scheffler when the Colombian teed off on the par-4 14th and a fan shouted out in his backswing.
“Go Scottie,” the onlooker could be heard shouting.
The frustration was visible immediately after he hit the ball, as Echavarria let his driver fall out of his grip and his ball went sailing right.
Scheffler quickly stepped in and admonished the fan as he walked toward the gallery.
“There’s no place for that,” Scheffler said as he was walking toward the tee box.
However, that wasn’t the only thing he did to make things right after the unfortunate moment involving the fan.
NBC reported on the broadcast that Scheffler conceded the long par putt after Echavarria’s third shot ended up on the back of the green 30 feet from the hole.
They ended up halving the hole after Scheffler missed the birdie putt and made par.
Scheffler did not appear to be in the mood to address the situation when he spoke with NBC after he closed out the match one hole later with a par.
“To be honest with you, I don’t even really want to talk about it. I think there’s no real place for that in our game. I think we just leave it at that,” he said.
The American golfer did seem to be a little testy following his round when he spoke to NBC.
Scheffler had pushed back when he was asked about being sat on Saturday, as he had not spoken to the media to address it prior to that moment.
“I mean, do you want to talk about today’s match?” he said. “I just played some golf out there. Do you want to talk about that?”
The U.S. beat the International team 17-13 to win the Presidents Cup.
