Sen. Katie Britt had a viral reaction Tuesday to a perjury accusation against former Special Counsel Jack Smith that unraveled shortly after it was leveled by Sen. Eric Schmitt.
During a fiery congressional hearing, Schmitt (R-Mo.) suggested that Smith was lying about not coordinating his case against President Trump with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis based on text messages the senator obtained that seemingly indicated he was “in Atlanta” attending a “Hawks game” in February of 2024.
The bombshell accusation imploded moments later, when Smith explained that he actually attended a women’s college basketball game between the Maryland Terrapins and Iowa Hawkeyes (or “Hawks,” as they are occasionally known), and was nowhere near Willis in Atlanta.
A camera in the hearing room zoomed in on Britt (R-Ala.), who was seated next to Schmitt, just as his perjury gambit fell apart – and her stunned, wide-eyed look quickly went viral on social media.
Jessiah Eberlin, the lefty host of the “Pondering Politics” podcast, described Britt’s expression as a “look of UTTER HORROR.”
“Sen. Katie Britt — a former congressional staffer herself — knew she was watching a mythical staff f–k up,” journalist Matt Fuller wrote on X. “The type of f–k up that interns will hear about as a cautionary tale on their first day of work on June 1, 2047.”
Podcaster Noel Fogelman added the absurdly upbeat “Curb Your Enthusiasm” theme music to the clip.
One X user predicted, “that face is going to be memed FOREVER.”
Another described it as “The moment Katie Britt’s soul left her body.”
