WASHINGTON — The adult son of Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) launched a vile antisemitic and homophobic tirade at Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) at a DC bar Tuesday night, saying at one point that the Iran war was “about the gays and the Jews, and I hate them both, and I don’t care if they die.”
In a phone conversation recounting the evening, Lawler told The Post that he was sitting at a popular DC bar with a friend and a reporter for NOTUS, which first revealed the incident involving William Paul.
“So Rand Paul’s f—ing son is sitting next to us at the bar … And he just like chimes in on our conversation, f—ing drunk and belligerent, and then starts going off about, you know, if [Rep. Thomas] Massie [R-Ky.] loses [his primary], it’s because of my people,” Lawler recalled.
“I’m like, ‘What people?’ He goes, ‘Jews,’ and I’m like, ‘Do you think I’m Jewish? … I’m Irish-Italian Catholic, buddy,’” the Hudson Valley lawmaker went on.
“He’s like, ‘Wait, you’re not Jewish?’” Lawler recalled the younger Paul asking, to which the lawmaker said he replied: “And even if I was, what’s the problem?”
“And then he got into the Middle East, and he was talking about, like, us trying to steal Iran’s land for the Jews and steal the West Bank, and I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’”
At that point, William Paul said: “This war, it’s all about the gays and the Jews, and I hate them both, and I don’t care if they die.”
In March, his father had opposed the nomination of Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) to lead the Department of Homeland Security over the latter’s endorsement of “dueling” to resolve political differences.
“I just wonder if someone who applauds violence against their political opponents is the right person to lead an agency that has struggled to accept limits to the proper use of force,” the Kentucky senator and chairman of the Homeland Security Committee said.
William Paul also accused GOP megadonor and billionaire Paul Singer, an American citizen, of doing “Israel’s bidding,” before knocking over a stool and stumbling out of the Capitol Hill watering hole.
The 33-year-old worked as a digital director for Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) from January to June 2025. Before that, he served in West Virginia GOP Rep. Alex Mooney’s office from August 2024 to January 2025.
“Last night, I had too much to drink and said some things that don’t represent who I really am. I’m sorry and today I am seeking help for my drinking problem,” William Paul posted on his X account Wednesday afternoon.
The senator’s son previously pleaded guilty in 2015 to driving under the influence after smashing his Honda truck into a parked car and being found “belligerent” and with “a strong odor of alcohol,” per the Lexington Herald-Leader.
Two years before, Paul got arrested for allegedly assaulting a 22-year-old female flight attendant on a plane headed for Charlotte, NC. Authorities charged him after he landed with consuming beer or wine underage and disorderly conduct.
Paul has also worked at the conservative group FreedomWorks Inc. and Americans for Tax Reform.
Reps for the senator’s office didn’t respond to requests for comment.
