SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It was an exciting day for local businesses inside Springfield’s Tower Square as they received more than $20,000 in funding.
Inside the Tower Square Food Court, it was a milestone celebration. This funding is helping this once nearly vacant space see full revitalization.
The funding was awarded by the Latino Economic Development Corporation. This money helps support entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds who may have just relocated into this space or who’ve been there for years. These entrepreneurs are bringing all types of international food to Springfield like Greek, soul food, and Puerto Rican food.
The corporation hopes this funding will help these to establish themselves further. Andrew Melendez, Director of Latino Economic Development Corporation told 22News, “This is for first and last to get them in the door. This is to continue being able to get fresh and quality food. This impact is not only for today, this is for tomorrow.”
Rep. Carlos Gonzalez adds, “We’re really trying to support that startup. And that entrepreneur that’s just struggling to get a first and last down payment on a location that’s trying to struggle to get inventory or to buy special equipment that they need.”
It is expected the funding will also support the launch of a brand new business within the food court called ‘Create a bowl,’ where people can pick their own meat, rice, and veggies. Funding went to a new spa within Tower Square called Bella Luna Aesthetics and Wellness.
The Latino Economic Development Corporation hopes Springfield’s economic success will be enhanced by providing these funds to businesses.
