The popularity of ESPN sports broadcaster Stephen A. Smith’s political “hot takes” have some hyping him up for a 2028 presidential run.

On Friday episode of his The Stephen A. Smith Show on YouTube, Smith said it is unlikely he will ever run for office.

“It’s not me. I live a pretty good life, and I don’t want to ruin it by getting involved in politics,” he said.

However, Smith digressed, saying “the Democratic Party looks so pathetic after this election, I might entertain running.”

Smith’s remarks on a potential future in politics follows a poll conducted by Trump’s former pollster John McLaughlin, which found Smith polling at around 2% among Democrats, reported The Daily Mail.

Smith’s polling numbers performed around the same as former 2020 Democratic primary candidate Beto O’Rourke (1%), Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (1%), 2024 Vice Presidential candidate and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (3%), and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (3%).

Since President Donald Trump’s sweeping November victory, Smith’s criticism of the Republican leader has been commended by Democrats. Unsparingly, Smith has also been critical of former Vice President Kamala Harris, calling himself a “fool” for supporting her, reported Vibe.

Smith was especially critical of Trump’s handling of the tragic plane crash in Washington, D.C., where a Black Hawk helicopter crashed into an American Airlines flight, killing 67 people.

On President Trump’s first few days in office, Smith declared, “I don’t like what I’m seeing” from President Trump.

Smith’s ongoing conflict with The Blaze commentator Jason Whitlock has also drawn attention. On his podcast, Smith called Whitlock “the worst, most despicable, lying, no-good, fat-a– human being I have ever known in my life.”

Whitlock accused Smith’s memoir of being “farcical” and suggested he is part of a conspiracy by the “elites” to install a puppet in the Oval Office.
