Muggier air is seeping into the region from the west with Pacific moisture funneling in and from the east with Gulf of Mexico moisture also funneling in. Higher pressure aloft will drift farther to the east-northeast, allowing for both sources of moisture to fire off thunderstorms after the heat-up. Along with partly to mostly clear skies from the morning into the early afternoon for most of New Mexico, temperatures will rise into the 80’s, 90’s, and triple digits from north to south.

Then, the storms will form with the heat and moisture combining together to produce rain-cooled air later today. Flooding will be possible along the northern Rio Grande and the northern Pecos River valleys, but flash flooding will be very likely later today in the burn-scar areas from Santa Fe to Ruidoso.

As The Monsoonal flow of moisture moves east across the state, rain will be even more widespread tomorrow with lower temperatures. In addition to the likelier threat of flash flooding with frequent lightning, severe weather threats of large hail and high winds will also be more likely, especially in northern and eastern areas. Then, more-enchanting weather briefly returns on Friday across The Land of Enchantment before another surge of rainfall arrives closer to the weekend.
