Daniel Leonard, the 25-year-old son of boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard, was arrested in Los Angeles Wednesday morning.
Daniel was taken into custody at a residence in West LA at around 5:29 a.m. after he had allegedly violated a restraining order, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told The California Post.
“The suspect was on the property, violating his restraining order, which prompted a call to 911 from someone on the property,” the LAPD rep said.
No further details surrounding the incident were made available.
Daniel was attempting enter his father’s home “by turning exterior door handles,” which triggered a call to authorities, according to TMZ.
“When officers arrived and met with security,” TMZ reported, “Daniel was located by the pool house and was promptly arrested.”
Los Angeles County Court records show Ray filed a request for a restraining order against Daniel on Wednesday — but it’s not yet clear if that’s what sparked Daniel’s arrest.
A restraining order hearing in the case has been slated for June 15, court records show.
Daniel is Ray’s youngest son, and the two have been photographed in public several times over the last decade, including in November 2023, when Ray shared a picture of Daniel with a happy birthday message in the caption.
“So happy to be with my son Daniel this weekend!” Ray wrote at the time. “I am so proud of you!!! Happy Birthday!!!”
Multiple attempts to reach representatives for Ray and Daniel for comment were unsuccessful.
