A suspect has been named after two men were critically injured in a shooting that took place inside of a Kroger outside of Houston, Texas.

Deputies with Harris County Constable Precinct 4 responded to reports of an active shooter at the Kroger located on Cypresswood Drive around 2:50 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, according to a social media post shared by Constable Mark Herman.

Herman said that deputies arrived at the scene less than two minutes after they received the report and they quickly took a suspect into custody. A preliminary investigation has led authorities to believe that the shooting stemmed from “a domestic disturbance between both males.”

Herman took to Facebook on the morning of Thursday, July 16, to identify the suspect as Kaden Ausbrooks.

Ausbrooks is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital and is being guarded by Precinct 4 Deputies. Once he is released from the hospital, he will be booked into the Harris County Jail.

Police have charged Ausbrooks with first-degree felony offense of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury. It is not currently clear if he has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following his arrest.

“We are grateful that no additional individuals were injured during this incident. The rapid response of our deputies, along with the assistance of our partner law enforcement agencies, allowed officers to quickly secure the scene, provide access to emergency medical care for those injured, and conduct the investigation necessary to file charges against the alleged shooter,” Herman said in a statement. “We appreciate the coordinated response of all personnel and agencies who assisted during this critical incident.”

Herman previously said that after the male victim was shot, he was airlifted from the scene in serious condition. Meanwhile, the male suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the neck and was transported to a nearby hospital in an ambulance.

Family Violence investigators with the constable’s office are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the shooting.

Before he shared the latest update, Herman said in an earlier social media post on July 15 that witnesses reported seeing a Black male wearing a yellow shirt and black pants as he fired a weapon inside of the store.

Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Captain Juan Flores also told reporters that officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds when they reported to the scene, per ABC News.

Police said that one of the men walked out of the store after he was shot and was then transported to a hospital. Meanwhile, the other remained inside of the Kroger with multiple gunshot wounds.

Flores said that both men were listed as being in critical condition on the evening of July 15. Meanwhile, no bystanders were injured during the incident.

Following the incident, Kroger released a statement addressing what happened inside of the store. “Out of respect for the ongoing police investigation, we are unable to release information at this time. We appreciate your understanding,” a rep for the store said, per ABC 6.
