Months after Donald Trump won the election, new findings reveal that Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign had reached out to Taylor Swift for a performance. The “Lover” popstar politely declined the proposal.

In Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager and Isaac Arnsdorf’s latest book, 2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America, they claimed that Swift had rebuffed Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff’s attempts to get her to perform at his wife’s last rally in Philadelphia, Pa. which is near the singer’s hometown.

“Swift proved to be a special challenge,” the journalists explained. “Staffers who worked on celebrity appearances were instructed not to make any outreach to her universe; Doug Emhoff was handling it.”

Emhoff, who was an entertainment lawyer, was friends with Swift’s longtime lawyer Doug Baldridge. The former second gentleman wanted “to convey that the campaign would appreciate any efforts the pop star could make to help Harris.”

However, a performance never came into fruition with Baldridge saying, “Swift would do what Swift thought was best.”

“Nothing more than the endorsement ever materialized,” the authors wrote. Performers at Kamala Harris’ Philadelphia rally included Fat Joe, Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, The Roots, and will.i.am, and Oprah Winfrey gave a speech.

On the night of the last presidential debate, Taylor Swift had endorsed Kamala Harris for president after Trump posted AI-generated photos of Swift endorsing the candidate. “Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site,” she wrote in an Instagram caption. “It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.

She explained her reasons, saying that she was voting for the former Vice President as “she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”

The day after Swift posted on Instagram, Trump confirmed that he was not a Swift fan in an interview on Fox & Friends. “I was not a Taylor Swift fan,” he said at the time. “It was just a question of time. … But she’s a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat. And she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace.”

Since he took office, Trump has posted more offensive posts towards Swift.  “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’,” he wrote.
