The first weekend of the women’s NCAA Tournament is in the books, and it went mostly according to script.
All the No. 1 seeds advanced to the Sweet 16, with UConn — the top overall seed — earning its spot in the second weekend of March Madness for the 32nd consecutive year.
The same, though, can’t be said about the No. 2 seeds after Virginia pulled off the surprising upset over Iowa in double overtime.
Virginia, a No. 10 seed that got into the tournament by the skin of its teeth, has emerged as a Cinderella darling.
