Saturday Night Live addressed Donald Trump winning the 2024 presidential election in the best way they know how.
On Nov. 9, SNL was hosted by comedian Bill Burr with the musical guest Mk.gee, and the featured cast began with a somewhat-somber cold open regarding the election.
Bowen Yang and Ego Nwodim acknowledged that the results were “shocking and horrifying” for many people, including the viewers.
Kenan Thompson and Heidi Gardner reminded everyone that even though Trump was indicted for trying to “forcibly overturn” the results of the 2020 presidential election and “openly called for vengeance against his political enemies,” he won by an “overwhelming majority.”
The SNL cast admitted that now that Trump has been elevated to this position again, there will be “no one brave enough to speak out against him” because there are fewer guardrails to keep him in check.
And then, in a hilarious change of tone, Kenan spoke directly to Trump that SNL, despite their hilarious portrayals of the 45th president and witty criticism of his allies, has been with him all along.
Sarah Sherman and Marcello Hernandez did their best to reassure everyone on the stage that they believed in Trump and actually voted for him.
Then, Colin Jost appeared to jokingly call out Michael Che as the “lamestream media” (a term coined by Sarah Palin) who was responsible for speaking against Trump.
Kenan and Marcello said that if Trump is “keeping some sort of list of your enemies,” then they “should not be on that list.”
A new and improved impersonation of Trump by James Austin Johnson was revealed.
Elon Musk (aka Dana Carvey), in his “Dark MAGA” hat, made an appearance.
And, they delivered a final message to all of the young men who helped Trump and Elon achieve their victory on Tuesday using a few motivational words from a very popular song by the Village People.
The SNL cold open was a masterclass in satire, and a lot of folks found humor in the segment.
One person said, “I love how they handled this. It’s difficult to ignore the elephant in the room, and this is just the right amount of tongue-in-cheek needed to still be funny.”
“I started crying from laughter when Jost called out Che. Thanks SNL, I needed that,” another person said.
“This really was a great choice,” another user wrote. “They couldn’t just laugh it off without looking tone deaf…They couldn’t ignore it…So they embraced it in an utterly absurd and unexpected way. Fantastic move…Especially when Colin thew Che under the bus HARD.”
This X user called out people who didn’t find the humor in the cold open.

“I just love the sheer sarcasm going on in this scene,” another person wrote.
And finally, this person said what a lot of people are thinking.
It’s been about 4 days since I laughed at all & I truly needed it. Reminds me how good comedy can help ease the soul a bit in times of distress. The people who skits punchline is pointing out… I fear will have it go right over their heads, just like this entire situation has.
